Making gradient yarn with a knitted tube

I've been playing around with a small knitting machine, which basically creates a simple tube (like a sock or sleeve width). My intention was to see what kinds of gradients I could create using different methods. The knitting machine I use is a small plastic crank machine that was only $30 on Amazon (Sentro 22 [...]

I purchased some yarn from KnitPicks a few months back, but when I got it in the mail I was not as happy with the color as I thought I would be. I love purple, but this color seemed to "Easter-egg" purple to me. I got this yarn before I started dyeing yarn myself, and [...]

About Nicole:

Hello! My name is Nicole and I’m a professional photographer with a love of fiber arts (primarily yarn and knitting). This is where I share my adventures with knitting projects, dyeing yarn, and more.

I’ve been playing around with more color-shifting gradient yarns and created some beautiful color combinations. I plan on knitting these into more entrelac hats, it’s so much fun watching the color change as the hat gets bigger.
I’m loving all of the blackberry-dyed yarn I made last week! Now I just have to figure out what I want to knit with these beauties.
I dyed some yarn using blackberries from my boyfriend’s property. For this skein I used a smaller amount of the dye, which resulted in a gorgeous silver-blue color. This photo shows it alongside the original bare yarn. So happy with how it turned out! The yarn is Swish DK bare from @knit_picks.
I started making an entrelac hat using my own hand-dyed gradient yarn. I love how it’s knitting up and it’s inspiring me to make more yarn with this type of color shift!
I put together a new blog post showing how I created a color-shift gradient yarn with my slow cooker. I originally became interested in dyeing to create this type of effect. The link to my blog is in my bio if you’d like to take a look!
I’m dyeing with blackberries today! My boyfriend has gobs of them on his property so we picked a bunch and I’m putting them to good use. 💜 🧶
